“You must eat six to eight small meals throughout the day to kick start your metabolism and be a fat burning machine.”
You have probably heard this before. It’s possible that you have even heard this from me.
Let’s take a moment to think about how much of a struggle eating 6 to 8 small meals a day is…
-Packing small meals into Tupperware, and bringing it all to work.
-Stopping what you are doing every couple hours to warm up your meal, and eat it.
-Forcing food down when you are not hungry.
Sounds inconvenient, right?
Eating several small meals has been the standard for many years. The reality is you can get great results from implementing a nutrition plan like this, however it is NOT the only way to get the results you want.
For the past couple months I have been exploring a different eating pattern that is extremely convenient called intermittent fasting. With this protocol, you fast for a portion of the day, and eat during the other portion.
Most people that adhere to this lifestyle start their fast in the evening between 6pm and 9pm. Then sleep for eight or so hours, and skip the traditional breakfast. The first meal is typically around lunch time.
Depending on your own body, fasting hours and eating hours may vary. I personally follow a 16 hour fast, and 8 hour eating protocol. I never thought that I would be not eating on purpose for two thirds of the day, but I am so glad I tried it.
